What are 16oz UV DTF Wraps?
UV DTF (Ultraviolet Direct-to-Film) wraps are a revolutionary labeling technology that combines the durability of UV printing with the ease of a sticker. Unlike traditional vinyl, these wraps consist of cured ink and a clear adhesive layer that transfers directly onto your surface, creating a "printed-on" look without the need for a heat press or bulky machinery.
Key Features
• No Weeding Required: Unlike traditional vinyl, there is no excess material to pick away.
• High Durability: They are waterproof, scratch-resistant, and offer a slight 3D "embossed" texture.
• Vibrant Finish: UV inks provide high color saturation and a glossy finish that doesn't fade easily.
• Versatility: While designed for 16oz glass cans (like Libbey glasses), they work on almost any hard, smooth surface including plastic, metal, and ceramic.
How to Apply: Step-by-Step Guide
Applying a UV DTF wrap is straightforward, but because the adhesive is extremely strong and permanent, you usually only get one shot at positioning.
1. Preparation
• Clean the Surface: Wipe your 16oz glass thoroughly with 70% isopropyl alcohol to remove oils, dust, or fingerprints.
• Dry Completely: Ensure the glass is 100% dry before proceeding. Even a tiny bit of moisture can cause lifting.
2. Position and Trim
• Dry Fit: Wrap the design around your glass (with the backing still on) to see where the edges meet.
• Trim if Necessary: If the wrap is slightly too long for your specific glass brand, trim the excess white space from the edges of the carrier sheet.
3. Peel the Backing
• Slowly peel the clear transfer sheet (which holds the design) away from the white/paper backing.
• Pro Tip: If any part of the design stays on the paper, lay it back down, rub it firmly, and try peeling again.
4. Application (The "Taco" Method)
• Hold the wrap in a "U" shape (the taco fold).
• Line up the center of the design with the center of your glass.
• Press the center down first, then slowly smooth the wrap outward toward the edges to prevent air bubbles.
5. Burnish (Squeegee)
• Use a felt-edge squeegee or a credit card to rub the design firmly onto the glass.
• Pay extra attention to small details and the edges of the wrap. The friction helps the adhesive "set."
6. Peel the Transfer Tape
• Slowly peel the clear transfer tape away at a sharp angle (flat against the glass).
• If the design starts to lift, stop immediately, rub it down again, and continue peeling.
Care Instructions
To ensure your wrap lasts as long as the glass itself, follow these rules:
• Hand Wash Only: High heat in dishwashers can eventually break down the UV adhesive.
• Avoid Soaking: Do not leave the glass submerged in water for extended periods.
• No Microwave: These wraps are generally not recommended for microwave use.
Note: UV DTF adhesive "cures" over time. While it is usable immediately, it reaches maximum bond strength after about 24 hours.
